Elie Cole, LAc, Chinese Herbal Therapist               co-owner Cypress Beauty & Wellness

Elie Cole started off as a massage therapist in 1999. While she loved giving massages, she began to feel limited by how much she could help her clients. With back pain or neck pain, she could successfully use her massage skills, but when her clients started coming to her for things like digestive issues, depression, anxiety, or menstrual symptoms, she began referring her clients to an acupuncturist. Elie began to realize that she could become that acupuncturist herself and continue to help her clients. She is still a massage therapist, but is also a licensed acupuncturist, a board certified Chinese herbalist and a food therapist. She has owned Nourishing Medicine since 2007 and is now co-owner with Nancy Lisac, of Cypress Beauty & Wellness. Elie loves going to work every day!

Nancy Lisac, licensed Esthetician , esthetic educator

                          co-owner Cypress Beauty & Wellness

Nancy opened Cypress Day Spa in 2004.  A life long interest in holistic well-being and a 20 year career in the natural foods industry led to the manifestation of her dream to open a day spa that offers the best of traditional healing modalities as well as skin care treatments with the latest in proven technology. Her partnership with Elie Cole in 2010 opened the door to the actualization of a more complete wellness center. The recent move to a beautifully remodeled space right across the street has provided the opportunity to offer a wider selection of services as well as a classroom featuring workshops and seminars that support health and well-being.

Nancy specializes in non-invasive, age-defying facial treatments, Dadashie acne treatments and therapies that contribute to restoring and balancing the skin's health. She also offers skin care products that combine the latest in effective ingredients without parabens, unnecessary perfumes and allergens. Comfortable waxing services are her specialty!

Sophie Frost, licensed Esthetician

Sophie Frost entered the healing arts profession 16 years ago as a Licensed Massage Therapist. She originally did a 2200 hour medical massage training course in Toronto Canada, which also included extensive spa services. She as well did energy work studies with practitioners in Toronto, New York and Texas.

Having grown up with artists, and studied art & performance at Portland State University, Sophie is naturally drawn to esthetic values. With her experience in body work therapies, and skin care education and sales from working in the day spa setting, Sophie felt compelled to broaden her scope of practice. She completed her training and licensure in esthetics at the International Beauty School in 2010. She has had great experience and feed back as a Licensed Esthetician ever since.

"I see quality esthetics as something not only skin deep, but as well through energetic understanding. If you feel good about how you look, and how healthy your skin is, it nurtures good feelings about yourself; thus helping you thrive in the world through your true essence. I see it as a fabulous spiritual journey. I enjoy taking that journey daily, and helping others discover that feels fantastic.
Everyone deserves personal power and enrichment."   - sf

 Miho Purcell, LMT

Hello, I'm Miho, a massage therapist living in the Sellwood-Moreland
neighborhood with my family since 1999.

I am originally from Japan, and I moved to Oregon for school about 20
yeas ago. In that time, I earned a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology
from Oregon State University, worked in both Tokyo and the US relating to my
degree, lived in London for a year and started a family here in Portland. After
helping my mother's small Japan-based aroma therapy business establish
connections in the Japan and Europe, I decided to change careers and obtained
my massage license from Oregon School of Massage in 2007. I have worked
with my fabulous Cypress colleagues since 2008. About the name of my
business, "Eternal Spring Massage" ... it is named after my Japanese maiden
name, Toyoizumi. Toyo in Japanese means eternal and izumi means spring.

I use a combination of long stroke massage, acupressure, hot stones and
aromatherapy, with the occasional blending in of deep tissue, passive stretch,
trigger points therapy and Reiki. I describe my style of massage as a fusion of
the best techniques from the western and eastern worlds. Most of the essential
oils I use are from Germany, which my mother has been importing since 1995.
Traveling to Germany together to study aromatherapy, we met great people in
the natural health field. Since that trip 15 years ago, it has been my passion to
heal people, thus why I became a massage therapist. After starting a family,
I saw a real need for pregnancy and after birth massage, which only fueled my
passion to heal. Supporting a new mother, and to be a small part of her journey
is something I'll never tire of...

Personally, I enjoy life through practicing Yoga, meditating, dancing,
aromatherapy, hiking, camping, traveling great distances, short family trips and
playing with my dog. I am excited to serve the community at the beautifully
renewed Cypress.

Delcie Adams, C.Ht

I began my practice in Los Angeles in 2006 where I became a Certified Hypnotherapist and Master in Guided Imagery. I’ve helped clients overcome a wide range of issues, such as fear, anxiety, public speaking, weight management, disease and infertility.

Empowering clients to take a step forward into the life they’ve always imagined is at the core of my practice. It’s my desire to guide my clients toward their own truth -- where they can free themselves of circumstances, relationships and limiting beliefs.

I have found that hypnosis is one of the most effective tools to connect with your unconscious mind and change the blueprint of doubt, anxiety and disbelief. Through hypnosis and guided imagery my clients change their state of mind to achieve career and financial goals, overcome pain and discomfort, release obstacles, attract loving relationships -- and live a more free and positive life.

As a mother and also a Certified Hypno Doula, (Tao of Birthing®) I specialize in working with women in all phases of pregnancy and birth. This includes issues surrounding fertility, pregnancy, pregnancy loss and teaching hypnosis for natural childbirth.

 Emily Amen, LMT

Emily specializes in deeply relaxing massages. She has over 14 years experience and an intuitive touch. Her work is wonderful for managing stress and painful conditions.Your sense of well being during your massage and after is the guiding principle of Emily's gentle therapeutic touch.

Emily graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993. After working and travelling, she decided to pursue her lifelong interest in massage and hands-on healing. She completed her initial comprehensive massage therapy training at the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, California.

Emily worked in a variety of settings, including with a chiropractor and in spas. This experience, combined with advanced trainng in energy work and myofascial release (which targets restrictions and disfunction in the soft connective tissue called fascia) eventually evolved into Emily's signature massage style: very relaxing, gentle yet deep work that is a pleasure to receive.

When not at work, Emily's focus is her family, both in Portland and back in Pittsburgh. She loves gardening, cooking , eating and curling up with a good novel. She is also deeply committed to the unifying religion of western Pennsylvania, known to outsiders as Pittsburgh Steelers Football.

Chung So, Educator and body adept, founder QUNEM-BODYWORK,
Former faculty Willamette University, OCOM, MIIS (Ret.) Oregon State Board LMT

Someone told me after illness had taken me from one specialist to another, ‘Find the answer yourself!'

So, I branched off from college teaching to health practices. Now, 30years later, I work by the Qunem motto:

Your body has a story to tell.

If it’s a tale of woe, rewrite it!

My clients find restfulness in the comfort and joy of feeling in balance. I encourage

clients to explore the depth of their body’s potentials – and to learn about:

Thomas Hanna’s Somatics, Milton Trager’s approach, Tuina, Shiatsu, JinShindo, sports

massage, Thai Massage, Myofascial Release (MFR), athletics, yoga, t’aichi, Feldenkrais,

Breema, and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF, my personal favorite)...

The names are many, but the objective is a body free from restrictions. I’m always told at

the end of my sessions: What a difference this massage made!

I definitely want to come back for another session! – Tim S.

I learned so much! – Courtney W.

[The therapist] is a scholar, and a gentleman. – Mona T., M.D. to patients she’d referred.

Headache? What headache? – Tim S. return visit.

I was startled – it’s like my quads melted away! – E.L., Fitness Instructor, doing routine

stretches after her first MyoFascial Release treatment.

I felt my body floating above the table, and I said to myself, ‘If this is it, I’ll go with it!’ –

Carol T., mother, health worker, recalling her JinShinDo experience.

Weave a web of restfulness......Restore what is supple

Balance the ch'i and be joyful

Frank Gruner, LMT

I’ve found that being a musician/bass player all my life was good preparation for performing massage therapy. They both require a certain sensitivity to the situation at hand, sometimes a stronger touch, and at other times a more gentle touch, always in communication with the receiver. All songs and all of my clients have different levels of needs, some more or less complicated than others. It’s always my goal to provide the highest level of my attention, care and skill to those situations, whether they are recovering from an accident or just need relief from the everyday stress of work and life in general.
I have been working as a massage therapist since 2007, having graduated from The Oregon School of Massage. I continue to learn from every client and from continuing education, both classroom and self study.

Stop by and sign up for a chair massage at Cypress Beauty & Wellness on Wednesday afternoons. See how 10 or 15 minutes in my massage chair can turn your week around. You'll be surprised at how such a short time can mean so much to your sore muscles and joints.

I look forward to finding the perfect solution for your immediate needs through a caring touch.

Joanne Gatti,  MS, OTR

I have been working as an OT in the hospital settings, both inpatient and outpatient for the past 11 years, deepening my sense of the health and illness continuum, and understanding what it takes to retrieve wholeness.   As a cranial therapist, I have been training for 6 years and consider myself a perpetual student, as its scope is limitless.  In addition to working on human beings for over a decade, I have had the humbling fortune to offer this modality to the critically ill and those transitioning from this life .

It gives me great satisfaction to be working at Cypress Wellness and Beauty.  Finally a healing space where I can offer the public what means most to me - a way to create and discover sustaining peace in one’s daily life.  Whether that be through modifying one’s environment ergonomically or offering a dip into the infinite wellsprings of cranial therapy, makes little difference as long as a more integrated sense of self is had in the end.

How do I find integration in this wild world of ours, you wonder?  I love backyard gardening and creating wild spots for birds and creatures.  I love to cook (paleo, thanks to dear Elie!), and practice Iyengar yoga and vipassana meditation.  I also find richness through my deep bonds in family and friends both local and far.  Laughing, hiking, and creating Japanese floral arrangements also feed me.
